About Morels & Memories

In 2011 at the age of 49 our beloved mother, Heidi Vanderlinde, was diagnosed with Younger Onset Alzheimer's Disease. Despite her courageous battle, she succumbed to this cruel disease in August 2019. Heidi's love for the outdoors, plants, and sunshine inspired us to create the Morels & Memories Mushroom Hunt & Alzheimer's Fundraiser.

For 10 years, we've come together to honor her memory. In the process we've raised over $114,000 towards finding a cure for Alzheimer's.

Dollars donated to our fundraiser are sent to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund, which is a non-profit dedicated to groundbreaking research. Until a cure is found, we continue to search for morels, fueled by our unwavering hope and determination to make a difference.

Heidi Vanderlinde Our Inspiration

Heidi Lynn (Lyzhoft) Vanderlinde peacefully passed away on August 2, 2019. She was 57, with her life shortened by the devastating effects of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.

We fondly remember and encourage you to think of Heidi from healthier years — a vibrant, quick-witted, energetic, kind, and generous mother, wife, sibling, daughter, and friend to so many.

Heidi undoubtedly loved her grandson, Maximus. They had a special bond. Max brought Heidi a joy no one else could replicate. As a busy toddler Max sat on Grandma's lap for hours cruising the halls of Presbyterian Homes. As a testament to their loving connection, when Max was two-years-old Heidi even allowed him to style her hair!

Our family is forever grateful to the dedicated team of caregivers at Presbyterian Homes Lake Minnetonka Shores, as well as the Park Nicollet hospice team, which were instrumental in providing comfort and peace.

Though it's not a coincidence Heidi was looked after with such love from her caregivers and her closest friends. Heidi gave her love away generously with contagious energy and unexpected one-liners that could leave you in stitches.

We will always miss Heidi, and while we do, we celebrate her life.

Heidi was born on March 16, 1962 in Watertown, Minnesota, to Roger and Janet (Simon) Lyzhoft. She attended grade school at Saint Paul’s Lutheran School and high school at Watertown-Mayer. She was an “80s Lady” — although several of her friendships date back over 50 years.

Heidi was a small-town girl at heart and worked close to the community. In earlier years, working for Carlson & Gage. Then later, caring for the homes of many in the community — in addition to hers as well.  She took great pride in maintaining the grounds and gardens as well as growing produce on the family farm.

But more importantly, Heidi took pride in those that she loved. Her relationship with Leon began in the 70s and culminated with nuptials on Valentine’s Day. They were together for decades and even in the last hours of Leon's life before his sudden passing.

During their happy years together, Heidi became a mom to three kids — Lindsay, Troy, and Courtney — then acted as a “second mom” to a handful more. Still finding time to raise a few treasured pets over the years.

In her last years, Heidi was an active participant in the Encore program in Waconia and in activities at the Presbyterian Homes campus. Her smile, laugh, and bright cheery eyes always captivated strangers and friends alike.

Heidi continued to find pleasure in simple things like sunny days, good music, and of course, chocolate.

While Heidi is missed by many, she no doubt wishes you find peace and joy in simple things too — like walking through the woods at the farm like she used to do.
